The Federal Air Transport Agency recommended that airlines study the impact of 5G on devices

The agency recommended that airlines prepare for the possible impact of the deployment of 5G networks on the on-board altimeter, as their frequencies are close to the frequencies of the device. Carriers have not yet recorded failures in the operation of the altimeter

The Federal Air Transport Agency recommended that Russian airlines prepare for the possible impact of 5G networks on the operation of on-board equipment when flying to other countries, informs “Kommersant” with reference to the letter of the department. Earlier, American airlines have already announced the possibility of failures.

According to the newspaper, the frequency range of 5G networks is close to the frequencies of airborne radio altimeters, which theoretically can affect their work.

At the same time, the letter notes that there was no unequivocal answer about the possible impact of 5G networks on the operation of devices either from aircraft manufacturers or from European or American regulators. However, taking into account the recommendations of these departments, the Federal Air Transport Agency asked the carriers to bring information to the crews about the possible unstable operation of altimeters, as well as systems that use their data. Airlines need to conduct extraordinary training for crews with imitation of unreliable operation of instruments.

The Federal Air Transport Agency also asked to analyze the landing approach requirements at airports in other countries and report any cases of abnormal altimeter operation.
