The extremely wealthy now often pay very little tax. Research platform ProPublica revealed last summer that the 25 richest Americans have barely paid income tax for years. Amazon CEO Bezos, who has a net worth of about $200 billion, paid no income tax at all in 2007 and 2011. Elon Musk, who would have passed the 250 billion dollar mark, also paid zero dollar tax on his income in 2018.
