The Rodríguez brothers’ speedway in Mexico will serve as this weekend’s F1 stage.

However, during the first driving lesson on Friday, we saw a lot of rather strange names on the track, when Jack Doohan, Theo Pourchaire, Frederik Vesti, Ollie Bearman and Isaac Hadjar jumped into their cars.

Among them, Mercedes’ Vesti, Haas’s Bearman and AlphaTaur’s Hadjar received their baptism of fire for the events of the GP weekend on Friday.

The Finns were naturally especially interested in the performances of Pourchaire, who leads the F2 series. The reason was that the French borrowed Valtteri Bottas Alfa Romeo.

Nastolainen watched anxiously as Pourchaire tried to get a decent lap time. It didn’t work out, however, as brake problems prevented him from a full-speed test run.

The team management had to stop Pourchaire’s test because the mechanics had to get to fixing the car for Bottas. Later in the evening, there will be another training session.

It certainly didn’t surprise anyone that Max Verstappen recorded the best lap time of the first session. He left Williams by Alex Albon in less than ten minutes.

A big favorite of the home crowd Sergio Perez was the third fastest.

Oliver Bearman was the best of the debutantes. He was 15th on the leaderboard.
