The best petrol cars, the real consumption measured by Green Ncap

How much does a petrol car consume? Fundamental data in the electric car, ace in the hole or Achilles’ heel depending on the efficiency of each vehicle, real consumption, and therefore the actual range, are decisive factors for the evaluation before a purchase. On the price lists you will find the average data communicated by the manufacturer which, however, very often does not coincide with the real consumption, influenced as it is by factors such as the external temperature and the use of the air conditioner. To have a reliable reference for a couple of years, the New Car Assessment Program (Ncap) can be consulted through the process called Green Ncap which tests cars at different temperatures with the active air conditioning set at 23 degrees centigrade. The organization is the same that, in collaboration with European governments, carries out the Euro Ncap crash tests and that has also reviewed the evaluation criteria on the total emissions emitted by a vehicle. We will pass from the current estimates tank-to-wheel (from the tank to the wheel, which consider only the emissions during the use of the vehicle) to the most truthful method well-to-wheel, “From production to use”. Below we examined the 10 best petrol cars still in production from the point of view of energy efficiency tested between 2021 and 2022 by Green Ncap: Fiat 500, Seat Ibiza, Toyota Aygo X, Hyundai Bayon, Citroen C3 , Skoda Fabia, Opel Corsa, Ford Puma, Peugeot 308 and Volkswagen Golf.
