The Berlin subway station Bismarckstraße is crumbling!

The Bismarckstraße underground station has been under renovation since 2016, and the work was originally supposed to be completed in 2020. Reason for the delay: unscheduled asbestos finds, corona and delivery problems.

Now the next breakdown! The drab gray concrete walls behind the U 7 platforms have already been clad with new dark green tiles. However, the work did not go according to plan. The result: parts of the new tiles had to be knocked off again.

“Unfortunately, due to a faulty substructure, some strips of the new tiles have to be replaced,” says BVG spokesman Jannes Schwentu.

The good news: The work is covered by the warranty and should be completed by the end of March. “There are no additional costs for the BVG and the overall schedule is not affected by this,” says Schwentu.

The total cost of the conversion is around 14 million euros. Schwentu: “As always, we try to carry out as much of the work as possible without major interruptions in the interests of the passengers.”

The construction work is scheduled to be completed in April 2023. Until then, among other things, elevators and escalators will be renewed and the remaining tiling work will be carried out.
