The last Winter Olympic Games marked a milestone for Spanish sport. For the first time in history, two medals were won. -the work of Javier Fernández and Regino Hernández- which joined those previously achieved in 1972 by Paquito Fernández Ochoa and in 1992 by his sister Blanca, both in alpine skiing. Spain goes to the Beijing 2022 event ambitiously with the hope of equaling that mark, despite the fact that neither Javier nor Regino will be present at this event. Below we analyze the medal options of our expedition:

QUERALT CASTELLET

The female flag bearer of the Spanish team is a clear asset to sneak into the medals. Thanks to a more than extensive experience, the Catalan will participate in her fifth Olympic Games looking for a medal in the snowboard category in the halfpipe modality. This competition consists of doing jumps and scoring stunts on both sides of the installation. In the last edition he managed to finish seventh.

Quim Salarich

The skier from Vic will seek to endorse his great moment of form in the slalom category. After getting two fifteenth places this season, Salarich is in the best moment of his career. He has the experience of having participated in the previous Winter Games and now he feels that his time has come after reaping the best results of Spain in the Alpine Ski World Cup in 30 years.

LUCAS EGUIBAR

The man from San Sebastian is the current world champion in the cross-country category in snowboarding, being a more than solid alternative to getting a medal. Capable of the best and the worst, Lucas Eguibar will compete in a category that consists of going through a circuit of four opponents and going through rounds until the final. His fellow sufferer, Regino Hernández, already touched the glory in the previous Games with an unexpected medal. Will it be your time?

JAUME PUEYO

With just turned 20, this young man will seek to make history in cross-country skiing in a category that is a lottery. The Catalan has been performing at a high level in recent events to the point of ensuring that if he didn’t think he would finish among the top 30, he would have better stayed home. In the 2021 season he managed to finish number 1 in the FIS ranking in sprint mode for his age.

ANDER MIRAMBELL

More than real options for medals, here we cling to his status as a flag bearer and to an experience that has led him to participate in three Olympic Games, always finishing in the top 30. The skeleton -what is commonly known as downhill sledging- is the category where no one has managed to overshadow it in Spain during his entire career. Now an international bell rings. At 38, his time might have come.
