That is why the sky above Zoetermeer turns pink in winter

Above the Oosterheem district, but also in other places, the sky sometimes turns pink. Is it a special natural phenomenon like the Northern Lights? Or sometimes they are aliens? No, it’s the gardeners in surrounding areas.

As soon as winter starts, the sky above the horticultural companies in surrounding villages and towns turns orange and pink. In Zoetermeer we also look at that colored sky.

Led lamps

The pink light is clearly visible, especially with low-hanging clouds. But also in fog or during New Year’s Eve when the air is filled with gunpowder fumes from the fireworks.

That mysterious light comes from the greenhouses in Lansingerland and Westland. Why pink? Many gardeners have switched to LED lighting because they are more energy efficient. The lights mimic the similar pink color of the sun, so the plants grow well. For example, watercress turns deep red thanks to the pink lamps, we read NOS.
