Thanks to glass: FC Bayern defeats Chelsea

FC Bayern Munich has secured a decent starting position for the second leg of the semi-finals in the Champions League. Coach Jens Scheuer’s team was able to rely on a strong Hanna Glas.

Bayern Munich’s soccer players have taken a step towards the final in the Champions League. The German runners-up beat Chelsea 2-1 (1-1) in the first leg of the semi-finals at home and have their sights set on reaching the final for the first time before the second leg on May 2nd in London.

Former Munich player Leupolz scores for Chelsea

In front of the eyes of Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeneß and the acting club boss Herbert Hainer, Sydney Lohmann (12th) and the strong playing Hanna Glas (56th) scored for the Munich team, while the former Bayern captain Melanie Leupolz looked strange and happy for Chelsea from (23rd). Thanks to this goal, a 1-0 win in the second leg was enough for the Londoners to advance.

Lohmann was free to head the ball from close range after a mistake by Germany goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger. The guests, who until then had not played much offensively, happily equalized a little later through Leupolz, who was beheaded by Marina Hegering in the penalty area and thus steered the ball into the goal.

Chelsea repeatedly put needle pricks through the former Wolfsburg player Pernille Harder. After Klara Bühl won the ball in midfield, Glas used her chance effectively for the renewed Munich lead, which, however, wobbled again and again. Such was the case in the 73rd minute when Chelsea’s So-Yun Ji hit the crossbar.

In the other semi-final first leg, Paris St. Germain for national player Sara Däbritz and FC Barcelona drew 1-1 (1-1). The premier class final will take place in Gothenburg on May 16.
