Test international match: German U21 wins in Italy at the end of the year

The German U21 ends the international season with a good feeling. In the endurance test in Italy, the DFB-Elf celebrates a success. A debutant also scores.

The German U21s ended the international season with a win in Italy. After defeats against France (0:1) and England (1:3), coach Antonio Di Salvo’s team won 4:2 (1:0) on Saturday (19.11.2022) after an overall convincing performance.

In front of a sparsely occupied ranks in Ancona, Cologne debutant Denis Huseinbasic (23rd minute), Lazar Samardzic (52nd) from Udinese Calcio, Freiburg’s Kevin Schade (56th) and newcomer Maurice Malone (88th / penalty) from Wolfsberger AC scored the partly worth seeing German hits in an entertaining friendly game.

Matteo Cancellieri (66th/74th) made the game that had already been decided exciting again. In the heated final phase, Giorgio Cittadini (85th) saw the red card after an emergency brake. Raoul Bellanova had to leave the field with yellow-red (87th).

Sovereign victory of the German team

In a challenging game in difficult conditions with puddles on the pitch, the German selection was the superior team despite a few failures. Unlike Di Salvo’s side, the hosts didn’t use their chances effectively, but also had fewer than Germany.

DFB captain Malick Thiaw (AC Milan) scratched a ball from Bellanova off the line during the game in the adopted country (54th). A little later, Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu was twice powerless as a secure backup against Lazio striker Cittadini.

Step on the way towards EM

After the defeats against France and England, the German U21 national team showed itself to be stable and determined.

The next course for the German U21s on the way to the European Championships will take place from March 19th to 29th, 2023. The EURO finals are scheduled to take place in Georgia and Romania from June 21 to July 8. Germany is the defending champion.
