World champion Tadej Pogacar is currently aiming for his fourth overall victory at the Tour de France and apparently already has the next cycling coup in mind.
As his UAE team boss Mauro Gianetti confirmed on the edge of the 112nd tour of France, the 26-year-old is planning his start at Spanish Vuelta a EspaƱa.
“The Vuelta is in its program”, Gianetti was quoted by the “Velo” portal.
The victory in the third largest Grand Tour next to France tour and the Giro d’Italia is still missing in the Slovenen trophy collection.
Pogacar’s rival Jonas Vingegaard from Denmark is also planning to start the Vuelta, which ends in Madrid from August 23 to September 14,.
Only seven drivers won all three Grand Tours
Last year Pogacar achieved the rare double from an overall victory on the tour and at Giro.
Now the next double success could follow – and his first overall victory at the Vuelta ever. Only seven other drivers managed to win all three Grand Tours – including the Belgian legend Eddy Merckx.
In 2019, Pogacar took part in the Spain tour for the first and so far and then took the third overall in Madrid before his three tour victories-with three stage wins.
