The financial knockout of 1860 Munich not only influenced Bayern, but also two competitors. A sporty relegated player will keep the class.
Since late Wednesday afternoon, 1860 Munich has been certain: the financial gap of 2.7 million euros could not be closed, and the “Lions” have therefore not received a license for the coming season in the 3rd league. The consequence is forced relegation to the Bavarian Regional League. What is a disaster for the traditional club is a great opportunity for two other clubs.

Because Munich’s financial knockout means that a club that has been relegated in terms of sport will now stay in class. The first contender is TSV Havelse, which ended the season in 17th place. On Tuesday, rumors spread that the Lower Saxony team could forego the unexpected chance of staying in the league because they still lack a stadium suitable for the third division and are afraid of financial costs.
On Wednesday evening, however, the relegated team clearly contradicted this representation. “TSV Havelse has submitted all the necessary documents to the DFB and NFV on time and in full for the 3rd league, the Regionalliga Nord and the U19 youth league and has taken part in the respective licensing and approval procedures,” says a statement that the club shared via social media.
If the DFB’s decision were positive, Havelse would receive the license for the 3rd league and suddenly manage to stay in the league. The club would then continue to play its home games in the Eilenriede Stadium in Hanover. “We would like to expressly thank those responsible at our neighbor Hannover 96 for their trusting and supportive cooperation,” wrote the TSV.
For Erzgebirge Aue, the short-term hope of staying in the 3rd league would be dashed. The Saxons ended up directly behind Havelse with one point less. If TSV had actually forgone relegation at the green table, Aue would have been the next step.
