Two people who are committed to the well-being of veterans and their environment like no other, were today nominated for the White Carnation Prize by King’s Commissioner Agnes Mulder (CDA). The contenders are Jaap Krikke from Assen and Roy Crouse from Meppel.

The White Carnation Prize is awarded annually to people who make a special contribution to veterans and their home front. This year the prize focuses on the home front of veterans, such as partners, family members, friends and informal caregivers.

According to Mulder, both Drenthes have worked for veterans in the province for years. Mulder says about Krikke: “His many years of commitment to veterans, their home front, and his involvement in the creation of the Veterans Monument in Assen make him an indispensable link between generations of veterans and their loved ones.”

Krikke has been active in various veterans organizations in the Northern Netherlands since the 1960s. The former marine held various administrative positions, was involved in the establishment of the Veterans Monument in Assen and helped organize the Drenthe Veterans Day. He is also committed to commemorations and walks for veterans.

Mulder says about Crouse: “The level of thoughtfulness, involvement and entrepreneurship of him and the foundation has meant a lot not only to Meppel, but also to the surrounding region.”

Crouse has been active in the Drenthe veterans community for years. He organizes and supports meetings, commemorations and activities where veterans and their loved ones come together. He focuses on strengthening mutual solidarity and making the stories of veterans visible.

The twelve King’s Commissioners were each allowed to nominate two candidates this year. The jury will assess all nominations and ultimately choose the winner of the White Carnation Prize 2026.

The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 11 in The Hague.
