Tasty Westen: West Flemish chefs show culinary assets

West Flemish ambassador and chocolatier Dominique Persoone is also the ambassador of Het Lekkere Westen. “I am proud to take on this role, because over the years West Flanders has strongly profiled itself on the map as the tastiest province. Our contemporary, gastronomic assets unlock the culinary individuality of each region and have international allure.”

New addresses

Westtoer and Horeca West-Vlaanderen have selected 170 chefs from Bruges, the Brugse Ommeland, the Coastal Region, the Leie Region and the Westhoek. That’s 38 new addresses from across the province. Together they have to present West Flemish gastronomy.

“The theme year also puts the spotlight on regional products, unique cafes, great accommodation and even original picnics”, says chairman Sabien Lahaye-Battheu of Westtoer. “Het Lekkere Westen is therefore a good reason to come and discover the gastronomic treasures of the four regions and Bruges. Large and small addresses tell a unique story.”

Year full of activities

For example, about a hundred lodging addresses present regional breakfasts and packages with local products and drinks. The Lekkere Westen also puts a series of authentic cafés in the spotlight and cyclists and walkers can go on a culinary discovery along various food routes. There are also various locations for a farm picnic on the website of Het Lekkere Westen. In the autumn, the West Flemish beer experience and North Sea gastronomy take center stage. In September, Het Lekkere Westen presents a beer magazine about the West Flemish breweries and their beers.
