Sweelpop goes for record: washing dishes for 40 hours

The fact that 40 hours of washing up has now been chosen is because Sweelpop has been around for 40 years. “And we wanted to break an old record.” The current record for washing dishes is also in the hands of the board of Sweelpop. That stands at a meager 36 hours, from 1999. “We are going to break that”, Scholing says confidently.

It is also washed in a special way. A counter has been placed on a cart. And that cart goes through the municipality. Zweeloo, Benneveld and Meppen are also visited, to return to Aalden.

To wash dishes for so long takes more than just soapy water, washing-up brushes, tea towels and a passion for dishwashing. And that’s dirty dishes. The record attempt will be combined with a flea market tomorrow. The organization hopes that there will be people who want to take dirty cups, plates or other items with them. After 40 hours of scrubbing, it should all be clean.
