SV RAP Black Devils, a veteran team of the Amsterdam football club, has been eagerly looking forward to it for weeks. The winner of the first Holdert Cup in 1899, the predecessor of the KNVB Cup, will play a replay of the cup final from 1906 on September 17. The opponent is DSV Concordia from Delft. “It is a special challenge”, captain Paul Kortleve knows.
The challenge cup, which bore the name of publisher Hak Holdert, was awarded to the cup winner until 1944. Since then, the cup has been lost, after which Concordia decided to start making replicas. That was because of their 135th anniversary. The final between RAP and Concordia will be played on 17 September at De Wageningse Berg, the stadium of the now bankrupt FC Wageningen until 1992.
“A whole circus has been set up,” continues Kortleve. “Former referee Henk van Ettekoven, now 82, will lead the match. We play in Wageningen, which is also a unique experience. So everything is being pulled out to make it a great party.”

Kortleve emphasizes that his team “desires to beat the friends from Delft-Noord.” RAP and Concordia also play together in the classic veterans competition. “There is always a fierce battle between our teams not to finish last. We lost twice last year (6-0 and 6-2), so we have to make up for that this season. you can win the Holdert Cup with that.”
Rejuvenation
Not only the sporting honor is at stake next week. Kortleve: “This match also counts for our competition, so we would like to get three points. This year we have also been rejuvenated in the selection by joining another team from RAP. I think we have a good chance because of that. to win. Our average age was around 48/49 last year, because of those 14 new guys it will be on average seven years younger.”
“Over the past few weeks I have tried to get things on track through email exchanges,” continues the captain. “It’s a really unique event, so we’ve been training heavily on Wednesdays for the past few weeks. We never did that before, that shows how this lives. Everyone is fit, so the prospects are good.”
presentation
The titanic battle between RAP and Concordia starts at 2 p.m. Afterwards, KNVB chairman Just Spee and director of amateur football Jan-Dirk van der Zee hand out the presentation of the replicas. Among others, Royal HFC (winner 1904, 1913 and 1915), Ajax (1917, and 1943), RCH (1918) and VSV (1938) receive a cup.
