Hamamatsu’s house turned the page with the new GSX-8T and GSX-8tt: European design, 776 cm³ twin cylinder engine and a solid and reassuring guide. It’s not just a more beautiful bike: it’s a different motorcycle. A turning point that could redefine the identity of the brand, opening it to a new audience without betraying the substance that has always characterized it

4 August – 15:59 – Ljubljana (Slovenia)

For once, Suzuki dared. But without exaggerating. The GSX-8T and GSX-8tt represent a cultural turning point, even before technique or stylistic. Two bikes that speak European, born in Turin and approved in Hamamatsu. Two motorcycles that demonstrate how the past, if reinterpreted with intelligence, can turn into a very sharp weapon to conquer the present. And perhaps the future. Aesthetics is the business card. The round lighthouse with a flat base, the 16.5-liter carved tank, the bar-end mirrors and the short pigtail with integrated LED light evoke the past without copying it. The 8T is inspired by the T500 Titan, the 8tt to the GS1000s loves: they are not replicas but identity declarations.

The style is (finally) substance

To understand how important these motorcycles are for Suzuki, just know that for the first time the entire design has been entrusted to a European team. Arturo Vidal and his group edited everything from the lighthouse to the pigtail. The result is a “beautiful” motorcycle, a concept rarely attributed to the Suzuki of the recent past. The two versions share the same base but they differ in some details: the 8T has a cleaner look and a classic style saddle, while the 8tt focuses on a sporting line, with a cupol, subcadian, colorful rims and flat saddle with red seams.

On board: space, balance and cleaning

Once in the saddle, the GSX-8T and 8tt offer an appropriate driving position: comfortable, natural and not very fatigue. The cycling quotas were designed to guarantee stability and handling. The T offers a more welcoming session and a relaxed naked feeling, while the TT has a slightly more advanced and protected position thanks to the aerodynamic windshield that reduces the pressure on the torso and the annoying windy effect at motorway speed.

How they go: between comfort and control

On the road, the new Suzuki amazed. The feeling with the advance is immediate. The bike is precise, directional, stable. The setting is neutral and allows you to vary the trajectory even in the curve naturally, thanks also to the well -designed steel frame and the aluminum swingarm that contributes to torsional rigidity. The only note concerns the Dunlop Roadsport 2 tires: discrete on dry but penalized by an unheard of profile between the front and rear, which limits the trust a little when you force the advance.

Engine: 776 cm³ of torque and roundness

The 776 cm³ parallel twin cylinder is the beating heart of the GSX-8T and 8tt. Already appreciated on the 8S, here it is re-proposed with the same configuration: 270 ° crankcases that simulate the behavior of a V-Mat, double camshaft in the head, four valves for cylinder, electronic injection and ride-by-wire. The response to the gas is fluid, without on-off, especially in map B (Basic), the most balanced for daily use. Map A is more aggressive (but never brutal), while the C is ideal for rain or for relaxed use. The torque of 78 Nm at 6,800 rpm allows you to get out of the curves at the top, but above all at the bottom: already at 2,000 rpm, in sixth, the engine pushes authoritatively. Also thanks to the 6 -liter Irbox optimized with differentiated length ducts to maximize the filling.

Vibrations? No thank you

The Suzuki Cross Balancer makes the difference. It is a patented primary double counterattack system positioned at 90 ° compared to the engine, capable of eliminating primary and secondary vibrations. The result is a fluid disbursement and a engine that vibrates very little to the medium and only slightly at high regimes. The mechanical noise is also reduced. The exhaust sound is dark and full, thanks to the low steel terminal with satin coverage and the two-in-one configuration with a double stadium catalyst.

Cycling: simple but effective

The chassis is in steel with an embedded frame. The suspension department relies on a 130 mm inverted Kyb fork and a mono adjustable in the preload via a ring, also Kyb. The calibration is sporty, but not extreme. On regular funds the bike is composed, but on the holes there is a certain dryness, linked more to the smoothness than to the rigidity itself. The weight in travel order is 201 kg for the 8T and 203 kg for the TT, well distributed thanks to the compactness of the engine and the abuse of 1,465 mm.

Electronics: only the useful one

The electronic equipment is complete but not invasive. The Sirs (Suzuki Intelligent Ride System) package includes: three motor maps (SDMS), 3-level traction control (deactivable), bidirectional quickshifter on/off, ride-by-wire, easy start system, low RPM assist. All information is displayed on the 5 “color TFT, which changes day/night theme and also shows battery voltage, consumption, autonomy and maintenance reminder.

The details that make the difference

One of the secret weight secrets is the lithium HY Batteliy P -Series lithium battery, developed with Eliy Power technology: it weighs only 850 grams against 3 kg of a traditional battery, it also works at -10 ° C and guarantees an estimated duration of 10 years. There is also a high-power USB-C socket perfectly integrated into the cockpit, useful for navigator and smartphone. The bar-end mirrors, in addition to being beautiful, offer excellent rear visibility. The LED round lighthouse is also efficient in the fold, thanks to a bundle optimized with long light designed to maintain visibility even in inclination.

Strengths and weaknesses

Here’s what he liked and what he did not convince during the Suzuki GSX-8T and GSX-8tt test.

  • Brilliant engine with low and medium speeds
  • Successful European design
  • Stable and sincere guide
  • Not very sliding suspensions
  • Funny tires between front and rear
  • Price higher than the GSX-8S, but without substantial technical upgrades

In a nutshell: is Suzuki (finally) changed?

Yes. Or at least he started doing it. The GSX-8T and GSX-8tt are convincing, solid, fun, accessible and beautiful motorcycles. Europeanized aesthetics does not sacrifice functionality, the guide is engaging and the well -calibrated technical package. The small limits (initial modular of the brakes, improved tires, suspensions to be refined) do not affect the overall experience. The substance is there, as always. But now the style also has something to say.
