In the second quarterfinals were Velzeboer and Poutsma for the Netherlands. Velzeboer had a lesser start, but because Poutsma crashed on a little more than one lap, she recaptured second place and qualified for the semi-final. However, the video referee disrupted Velzeboer’s party and saw a mistake by the Dutchman during an overtaking maneuver, so that she was not allowed to go to the semi-final battle.

Schulting had to keep Dutch honor high in the fourth stage. The task was made easier when one of her opponents was disqualified for a false start. Still, it went anything but flawless, because immediately after the start there was a small collision between Schulting and the Chinese. Because it happened before the first corner, the race was restarted after a repair of her skate.

This time Schulting was well away. Because there was a fall behind her, it was soon clear that she was in the first two and so she qualified for the semi-finals without much problem.
