With the decisive goal in the second half, the Brazilian Raphinha advanced to the top spot on Sunday (January 11, 2026). Match winner for Hans-Dieter Flick’s team, who lived up to his reputation as a “final specialist”. For the German coach it was the eighth final victory in his eighth final.

Red card against de Jong

The great rivalry between the two old arch-rivals shaped this duel. It was a tough 90 minutes on both sides. The negative highlight was a red card against Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong in stoppage time.

As in the previous year, when Barça triumphed 5-2, the Spanish Super Cup was played as a four-team tournament in the King Abdullah Stadium in Jeddah on the west coast of Saudi Arabia.

Lewandowski in the starting line-up

At first it started off at a leisurely pace. The Catalans, for whom “oldie” Robert Lewandowski stormed again from the start, were the more active team at the beginning without doing much with it.

The “Royals” had their first good chance through Vinicius Junior, but he was denied by Joan Garcia in the Barca goal.

Raphinha with the opening goal

After half an hour, the Primera Division leaders became more dangerous. The most noticeable player in Hansi Flick’s team: Raphinha. The Brazilian missed two good chances, but he struck the third time.

Raphinha gave Real keeper Thibaut Courtois no chance with a shot through Aurelien Tchouameni’s legs (36′).

Crazy injury time

When the three-minute stoppage time appeared on the scoreboard, things became extremely spectacular in Jeddah. At first, the moment belonged to Vinicius Junior. He left Jules Koundé standing, also outplayed Pau Cubarsi and scored 1-1 into the far corner (45th + 2).

The joy didn’t last long, then Lewandowski was used brilliantly by Pedri and poked the ball past Courtois – 2-1 (45th + 4).

Three goals in four minutes

It was about to get even stranger, because it still wasn’t over at half time. The last scene before the break once again belonged to Real: Raphinha cleared a header from Dean Huijsen, who was replacing the injured Antonio Rüdiger, with his head at his best.

Gonzala Garcia shot the rebound from the crossbar as he fell to the bottom edge of the beam. From there the ball fell over the line – crazy (45th + 6).

The score was 2-2 and fans and players in Jeddah were able to take a deep breath after these wild minutes.

Alonso and Flick with us Exchange of opinions

Things didn’t go that crazy, instead things got increasingly awkward. Referee José Luis Munuera Montero had to do a lot to bring calm to the rivals’ actions. Things also got heated on the sidelines. Hansi Flick and Xabi Alonso shared their opinions.

The many fouls and nicks hindered the flow of the game in the second half. It was only in the final quarter that both teams put their great football skills back to the fore.

Hansi Flick was the shining winner in the end

Mbappé and Alaba came on late

And Barcelona presented again. First, Lamine Yamal was denied by Courtois, who made a sensational save. But then “Mister Supercopa” was there again: Raphinha tried it with his weaker right foot and slipped. But he was lucky that Raul Asencio deflected his ball to make it 3-2 (73′).

Xabi Alonso reacted. He now brought in David Alaba and, above all, his superstar Kylian Mbappé, who had initially sat on the bench due to his knee injury.

But Mbappé succeeded Lucky Punch no longer. However, Barça’s de Jong had to leave the pitch in Jeddah shortly before the end after a stretched leg. The Catalans still celebrated their renewed triumph in the Supercup.
