Teachers of all educational stages as well as ESO and university students are called to mobilize
New day of strike in Catalan education. This Wednesday, in defense of the Catalan school and against the ruling of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia that obliges educational centers to teach 25% of classes in Spanish. The Workers Union Coordinator (COS), the Intersindical-CSC, the Sindicat d’Estudiants dels Països Catalans (SEPC) and the USTEC union are the organizations calling this strike, which also has the support of the rest of the teachers’ unions, the Union of Students (SE) and the Association of Progressive Students (AEP).
Cultural Omnium has expressed its explicit support and has encouraged the mobilization. He too Government de Pere Aragonès supports the protest, despite the fact that the organizers believe that the Catalan Executive is not being forceful enough in its defense of Catalan before the courts. In Barcelona, the protest will start in Plaza Urquinaona at 12:30 p.m. this Wednesday under the slogan “Your sentence, our fight! The school in Catalan! March 23, strike for the language”. On the horizon, April 5, the date on which the deadline given by the TSJC to the Generalitat to start applying the sentence in all Catalan schools expires. “We are in discount times”, the organizers have warned.
Shortly before the Government announced a decree to shield Catalan in schools, the organizers appealed to the Department of Education to “assume all responsibilities in the defense of the Catalan language and to commit, with specific measures, to preserve and shield the linguistic immersion model”.

The minimum services decreed for this day of strike in schools are the same as in previous strikes: 1 teacher for every three classrooms in infant, primary and secondary. In the dining room and reception services, as well as in nurseries and special education schools, 50% of the staff must be operational. Also, a member of the management team should be in the center.
