Straßer in the slalom with a good chance of an Olympic medal

Yanqing (AP) – Ski racer Linus Straßer has secured a good starting position for the second slalom run at the Winter Olympics.

The 29-year-old from Munich was fifth after the first run, 0.33 seconds behind Austria’s leader Johannes Strolz. “It was really a very good, solid run. I didn’t feel like I was really driving at the limit,” said Straßer. Second was Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen, followed by compatriot Sebastian Foss-Solevaag.

Alexander Schmid from Fischen im Allgäu took 23rd place after the first run, Julian Rauchfuss retired after a driving error. In his parade discipline, Straßer could win the first medal for the Alpines of the German Ski Association at these games. In the women’s competition, Lena Dürr in the slalom and Kira Weidle in the downhill narrowly failed in fourth place.
