Statement of the day: The Dutch should be able to vote for the names of storms

Weer.nl: Eunice may be more violent than previous heavy storm Ciara

Corrie, Dudley, Eunice… these are the names of the first winter storms of 2022. Those names come from the shared name list with Great Britain and Ireland. Interesting detail: in those countries the inhabitants can vote for the names, but we are not allowed to.

In the UK and Ireland, the public can submit name suggestions. The most popular have been selected from these. In the Netherlands, the KNMI has drawn up a list itself. A definitive list was eventually made of the names of the three countries, which is used to give storms their names.

Should we in the Netherlands (just like in Great Britain and Ireland) be able to vote for which names will be on the storm list?
