Sportpaleis Group comes with its own research: concert sector does not appear to be a source of infection | Music

MusicThe cultural sector was hit hard by the measures taken by our government during the corona pandemic, but a new study by the Sportpaleis Group itself shows that the concert sector is not a source of infection. The results show that the imposed precautionary measures have a positive effect. According to the study, there is therefore no reason to treat this sector more severely than other sectors where people are allowed to collect.

In the absence of objective figures, the Sportpaleis Group has conducted its own research into the contamination risks of a visit to one of their halls. Between October 30 and November 28, a total of 2,000 visitors were surveyed. It concerns persons who have visited one of the concert halls or theaters in our country during this period. The aim was to find out what the concert and theater visitor thought about the extensive corona measures and whether participation in a concert entailed a risk of contamination.

No breeding ground for infections

The research shows that during those four weeks, only 0.11% of the Flemish infections originated from a visit to a room of the Sportpaleis Group. The latter is of course not the only provider of concert experience in Flanders. Taking into account their market share, the researchers could state that the entire concert sector was responsible for 0.64% of the Flemish infections in that period.

According to the Sportpaleis Group, there is only one clear conclusion: the concert sector is not a hotbed of infections. “These figures show what we have been feeling for months. We are not the problem”, says Jan Van Esbroeck, CEO of the Sportpaleis Group. Keeping the majority of the concert sector closed for any longer is therefore not an option, according to them. “Nothing stands in the way of a full reopening, with the adherence to the accompanying measures.”
