Sony’s ambitions in the electric mobility sector are not recent. At CES 2020, the Japanese had already expressed their desire to position themselves in the electric vehicle market. Two years later, at CES 2022, the Japanese giant unveils two electric vehicles : the Vision-S 01 and Vision-S 02.

Sony is not at its first attempt. Already in 2019, the Japanese worked with Yamaha to build an autonomous cart called the SC-1. This time around, Sony unveiled two futuristic electric vehicles. We discover a sedan and an SUV. Some will see a bit of Tesla in Sony’s vehicle lines. The two electric vehicles of the Japanese are equipped with LiDAR sensors that allow the driver assistance system to function properly.

You guessed it, while Sony isn’t communicating clearly on autonomous vehicles, both vehicles still reach level 2. Tests are currently underway in Europe to perfect the technologies of autonomous driving of vehicles and one can imagine that in a few years, the Vision-S 01 and Vision-S 02 will be able to reach a higher level.
Inside, it’s very futuristic. These include sensors that allow for driver authentication, as well as support for voice commands. The vehicle will be with 5G connectivity to enable regular updates that Sony is currently working on with several partners.

The creation of the brand “Sony Mobility” in spring 2022
If the Vision-S 01 and Vision-S 02 are for the moment only prototypes, Sony has the ambition to become a major player in the automotive industry in the electrical sector. To dissociate its activities, Sony even plans to create another company called “Sony Mobility”. This brand should see the light of day next spring.
In its press release, Sony specifies that Vision-S vehicles will be designed in the lens “To improve the safety of drivers on the roads, to improve adaptability and promote entertainment”. Indeed, Sony really matters build on the reliability of its vehicles. The technologies developed will make it possible in particular to analyze the environment in real time, to allow the driver to have access to as much information as possible.
