Snakes on Monday. Make Diependaele Minister of Care tomorrow and the budgets will now go to those who are healthy | Inland

Just when you think that absurdity also has its limits, Flemish Minister of Housing Matthias Diependaele (N-VA) appears. On his own, he has managed to make such a mess of the social housing sector that no bricks are left on the other. As a result, the minister does not get spent half of his budget for social housing. Not that there is no demand, because for years 170,000 families have been on the waiting list for social housing. But as far as the minister is concerned, they can safely wait a little longer, because the reform of the social housing sector takes precedence over building new homes. And if half a billion remains that are intended for the poor on those waiting lists, you simply spend that budget on what Diependaele calls “people who are not entitled to the social housing market, but are confronted with rising rent and purchase prices.” So he wants to give the money to the private sector to build new projects, especially for people who do not qualify for social housing.
