The Nordic World Ski Championship in Trondheim was cheated. The Norwegian hosts publicly admitted this one day after the ski jumping slat. Now new allegations come to light. Was it also tried to manipulate the official suit chips of the World Association FIS?
The ski jumping world is in turmoil after the blown fraud of the Norwegian ski jumping team around the final competition. It is still unclear how large the extent of manipulation is.
The World Association FIS initiated an official investigation on Sunday to clarify the background. So far, it is known that employees of the Norwegian ski jumping team have already separated and provided with additional seams before the large hill competition in the team hotel and have already taken up with a FIS chip. This improves the flight ability irregularly.
National coach Magnus Brevig can also be seen in a secretly recorded video through which the Norwegians were transferred, the windows are taped with black film. “We made changes to the suits in the knowledge that they are not legal. As I see it, we cheated,” said sports director Jan Erik Aalbu on Sunday.
As the new media report, the suit should not only have been manipulated. According to information from “Bild”, even attempts are said to have been made to “hack” the chips built into the suit. With the help of the chips, FIS chief controller Christian Kathol can check whether the suit has already been used.
“It is not difficult to chop these chips,” quotes “Bild” an insider that is not mentioned by name. It should be possible to read or even clone the data stored there. According to the report, “several times” have been attempted to then incorporate the chopped chips into suits that were not previously approved.
What circles does the ski jumping scandal draw?
Mathias Hafele, who was responsible for the suits of the Polish national team, had also previously expressed such suspicions. It cannot be ruled out that in the Norwegian suit there was an “illegal, cloned or previously approved chip” chip. “This cannot be determined by the view of the video, but should be checked,” he asked the World Association FIS.
If it is possible to manipulate the chips, the ski jumping scandal should probably draw even larger circles. Then it would theoretically be possible that fraud, for example in the Nordic combination – also took place in other competitions or even divisions.
However, Norway’s sports director Jan Erik Aalbu assured that one had only cheated in the last World Cup competition.
