After the fraud scandal at the Nordic Ski World Cup, the ski jumping world is now trying to focus on the sporty again. It remains to be seen whether this will succeed in the RAW Air. We have compiled the most important information and facts about the event in Norway on Thursday (13.03.2025).

What is the RAW Air?

The RAW-Air series can be seen as a Norwegian counterpart to the four-hill tour. Even though four ski jumps have not always jumped in recent years, the jump competitions in Norway have developed into the second most important ski jumping series in the World Cup calendar.

How long has the RAW Air existed?

The 2017 series was carried out for the first time. The winner at the time was the Austrian Stefan Kraft, who is also a record winner with three overall successes. Women have also been with the RAW Air since 2019. The first overall winner was local hero Maren Lundby ahead of Katharina Schmid (then still Althaus) and Juliane Seyfarth.

What is different from other series?

In the RAW Air, all jumps flow into the final bill, including the qualification for the competition. This is referred to as a prologue. This means that, for example, a total of 18 jumps (two from the competition plus each of the qualifications) go into the rating for six individual competitions. Since the women do not make a qualification while ski flying, fewer jumps go into the rating.

Where will jump in 2025?

With just two places, this year’s RAW Air is the smallest since it was founded eight years ago. The big hill is jumped on the Holmenkollen in Oslo and on the monster bakken in Vikersund. A competition is on the program in Norway’s capital, in Vikers and two. This year, the men have six jumps of scoring, the women only four.

The overall winner and the overall winner of last year: Eirin Maria Kvandal and Stefan Kraft.

Which German jumpers are there?

Who are the favorites?

Of course, everyone who performed last. In addition to the Austrian trio Kraft, Daniel Tschofenig and Jan Hörl, who occupy the first three places in the overall ranking, Andreas Wellinger can also calculate opportunities. And of course the Slovenes. This year’s format with a total of four rating flights will go to the strong sailors. And Timi Zajc and Co. are always at the forefront. They had already demonstrated this with two day victories at the only ski flying this winter in Oberstdorf.

In women, victory can only go through Nika Prevc. The 19-year-old from Slovenia is the dominant ski jumper this season. Behind it are Katharina Schmid and Selina Friday in the overall ranking. Of course, they also depend on the flights in Vikersund. Both are still waiting for their first 200. Otherwise, the Norwegians try to use their home advantage. With Silje Opseth you also have the current world record holder (230.5 meters).

What is different than usual?

The Norwegian fraud scandal floats from the Nordic Ski World Championship over the RAW Air. The World Association continues to investigate, but both Marius Lindvik and Johann Andre Forfang will be part of the series. The Norwegian ski association announced this on Tuesday. At the large hill competition in Trondheim, the two Norwegians were disqualified last Saturday due to manipulated suits. A day later, the Norwegian association admitted the conscious manipulation. The head coach, his CO and other service people were then suspended. The jumpers stated that they knew nothing of the manipulation.

Andreas Wellinger had expressed his suspicion in a TV interview about the situation. “I actually have little desire to meet a Norwegian on the hill. Not because one personally can personally do something for it, but because this manipulation from A to Z has been shot over the finish line “said the 29-year-old at Servustv.

How about finances?

The much required equal pay – the same payment for men and women – was already practiced at RAW Air in 2024. The organizers equalized the prize money for the overall ranking, for the winner there was 40,000 euros each. The runners -up received 13,000 and the third -placed 6,000 euros.
