Fortuna Düsseldorf rejected a possible obligation by the Israeli striker Shon Weissman and publicly informed it.

“We dealt intensively with Shon Weissman, but finally decided to refrain from an obligation,” the association wrote on Tuesday at “X”.

Weissman had probably already passed medical check

When asked whether this decision is related to fan protests against an upcoming obligation, the association did not want to express itself explicitly on request.

In fan forums and social networks there had been resistance to a transfer of the 29-year-old from the Spanish second division club FC Granada. A petition was also started on the “Change.org” platform to prevent an obligation. According to information from the “Rheinische Post”, Weissman successfully completed the medical check on Monday. In addition, the supervisory board is said to have lodged a veto.

The attacker defends himself against allegations

The protests refer to reports on statements by Weissman in connection with the Gaza War after the attack of the terrorist organization Hamas on October 7, 2023. According to a report by the Israeli news portal “Walla”, which appeared a little later, he had also provided posts in social networks with a like that demands the Gazas exclusion.

After the burst transfer to Düsseldorf, Weissman commented on social networks. “While I accept every criticism, it hurts me that the entire context was not taken into account,” wrote Weissman in a detailed statement on Instagram. He cannot be represented as someone who shook hatred.

Weissman recently stormed for FC Granada, and fans had also challenged the player’s out of the Spaniards because of the comments. In October 2023, Weissman called, among other things, to wipe out Gaza and “drop 200 tons of bombs on it”. Weissman had deleted the contributions shortly after its publication and later explained that he made a mistake and acted in the zeal of the moment.
