Aston Martin can report another milestone in its conversion, in the course of which the team wants to come to the absolutely top of Formula 1: Enrico Cardile, formerly technology director at Ferrari, has officially started his work as a Chief Technical Officer (CTO). This ends a monthly hanging area that even went to court.
As early as July 2024, Cardile was announced as a prominent reinforcement for the technology team of the Silverstone racing team. But Ferrari insisted on compliance with a full one-year exemption phase. The Scuderia even went to court because it accused the Italian of violating his competition ban.
In April 2025, the court in Modena Ferrari was right. Aston Martin then had to move the start of his new chief of technology. Only now, after completing all legal procedures, can Cardile play his new role.
On Monday, the team officially confirmed: “We are pleased that an agreement was reached and Enrico can now progress with the team – as a Chief Technical Officer, with a view to 2026 and beyond,” says a statement.
In its role, Cardile will be responsible for the entire technical concept and vehicle development. He works side by side with design guru Adrian Newey, who started in April as a Managing Technical Partner at Aston Martin.
Cardile was originally supposed to work under the previous technology director Dan Fallows. But this was released from his tasks in 2024 and left the manufacturer in spring.
With the commitment of Newey and Cardile as well as the return of Andy Cowell as team boss and CEO, Aston Martin has installed a top -class management trio at the head of his technical project. The ambitions for the 2026 season, when new engine and aerodynamic rules come into force, are clearly defined: the attack on the top has opened.
Enrico Cardile studied aerospace technology at the University of Pisa until 2002. He initially not started his career at Ferrari in 2005 in Formula 1, but in the Group’s GT department. There he worked on aerodynamic projects for Ferrari’s road sports cars.
It was only in 2016 that the 50-year-old moved to the Formula 1 department in Maranello, where he quickly made a name for himself. As of 2019, he was responsible for the development of racing cars as head of aerodynamics before rose to the technical director in 2021. In this role, he was instrumental in the conception of the vehicles of the new ground effect era from 2022.
After almost two decades in the service of Ferrari, Cardile decided in 2024 to switch to Aston Martin.
