Amy Pieters suffered serious brain damage during her fall in Spain at the end of last year. This reports the surgeon of the cyclist from Zwanenburg. Her situation is otherwise unchanged. Pieters breathes independently, but is currently still not conscious.

Pieters has been under treatment in a Dutch hospital for several weeks. Professor Wilco Peul, the neurosurgeon who treats her, reports that Pieters suffered very serious brain damage during her fall. the reigning Dutch road champion fortunately survived the first life-saving operation and the subsequent artificial coma according to the circumstances.

Period of uncertainty

Her team SD Worx provides an update on the recovery of the thirty-year-old cyclist in a press release: “This is a long period of uncertainty for every patient with very serious brain injury. There is currently some improvement in her consciousness, but Amy Pieters is not awake. The sequel is still unpredictable, and it is expected that after her hospitalization, if her condition is stable in terms of physical health, she will face a long rehabilitation period.”
