If Ukraine begins to steal Russian gas, then Russia will stop its transit through the country, wrote in his Telegram senator Alexey Pushkov.

The politician’s statement is connected with the words of the ex-head of Naftogaz Ukrainy, Andriy Kobolev, sounded yesterday that Ukraine will pump gas from a transit pipe if it cannot ensure sufficient fuel imports to cover daily deficits.

“An interesting forecast: Ukraine will have to steal Russian gas, and this will lead to the termination of the contract with Russia and the end of the Ukrainian transit,” commented Pushkov.

The same scenario was predicted by Kobolev. “The reaction of Russians to unauthorized selection (or, more simply, theft) of gas is not difficult to predict: stopping transit through the territory of Ukraine and the immediate termination of the current transit contract signed in December 2019,” he said.

The Foreign Ministry said that Russia is not obliged to supply Europe with gas through Ukraine

Earlier, Naftogaz reported that many of the largest gas fields in Ukraine are 80% depleted and are at the final stage of exploitation. In addition, the company also warned about a “critically small” coal reserves in the country.

In addition, the current head of Naftogaz, Yuri Vitrenko, said that Russia does not want to negotiate with Ukraine to extend the gas transit contract after 2024. Vitrenko believes that in this way Russia is trying to strengthen control over gas supplies to Europe using the Nord Stream pipelines.
