Singing mermaids, talking hippos, flying cars… Primary school children are incredibly creative, have a lot of imagination and it is precisely these aspects that the JuniorCampus of the Technical University of Lübeck makes use of. In a workshop for primary school teachers, explains the junior campus How the Scratch programming language works.

Like a Lego construction set, it playfully encourages logical, mathematical, analytical and algorithmic thinking in primary school children – as well as children’s imagination and creativity. With Scratch, the adolescents can, among other things, tell interactive stories, compose pieces of music and have them played back, or even animate birthday cards.

Elementary school teachers who have never heard of Scratch and those who want to learn are invited to take a look at the coding tool together with the JuniorCampus. It is used in many ways and is available free of charge. Together with the JuniorCampus, the teachers immerse themselves in the Scratch world and receive suggestions for implementation in the classroom.
