After suffering a disease caused by the Omicron strain, a post-covid syndrome may occur, Sergey Voznesensky, Associate Professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, told RBC.
“Regardless of the strain, post-COVID syndrome can occur. Omicron is still a coronavirus that can affect the central nervous system, the gastrointestinal tract, and the respiratory system. Therefore, everyone who has had a coronavirus infection is subject to more in-depth dispensary observation to identify post-covid syndrome, ”he said.
The scientist emphasized that the syndrome can manifest itself in the nervous, cardiovascular and respiratory systems. “Depends on how the infection proceeded. If there was resuscitation with artificial lung ventilation, this is one spectrum of problems. If a person has chronic diseases of the cardiovascular system, this is a different layer. There is a link to a specific individual and his chronic pathologies, ”he explained.
