SC Freiburg writes record numbers: success & new stadium as reasons

€14 million more surplus

SC Freiburg closed the past financial year with record results. At the Bundesliga club’s general meeting on Wednesday, CFO Oliver Leki presented “the best results that the SC has ever achieved.” The Baden-based team increased their sales in the 2022/23 season to 175.3 million euros (previous year: 114.9 million euros) and achieved an annual profit of 16.1 million euros (previous year: 2 million euros).

The main reasons for this were the better marketing opportunities, including through the new stadium, and the sporting successes in the Europa League and the DFB Cup, explained Leki. In addition, the sports club increased its equity capital to 111 million euros in the past financial year (previously 95 million euros). “We are in an extremely solid financial position,” said Leki, “and we don’t have a single euro in debt to the bank.”

The number of members also continues to grow. It has almost doubled in the past two years to currently around 63,000. “This growth brings challenges that we as SC did not know existed,” said Leki. “The increases do not continue like this year after year, but we are positioned for the future in every respect.”
