Savile Row by CG – CLUB of GENTS: We are Young – We are the Mods
How does a new youth movement actually come about? – Boredom simply has to reach into the abyss. The youth in dreary post-war England no longer wanted to dance to the tune of their parents. “We are young! We are the Mods! ”Was their battle cry. They were considered to be the unadjusted in the classic elevator. Young dandies indulging in a noble style of clothing and cruising through the streets on their scooters. They were interested in dance, music and fashion. The establishment was amazed at children who dressed smarter than their parents. The look was sometimes tough and masculine, sometimes classy and elegant – but always classically British.
The autumn-winter collection 2022 by Savile Row by CG – CLUB of GENTS takes us to the roots of the brand, more precisely to London. The style of the season pays homage to the English mods and their rebellious spirit as paradigmatically portrayed in the movie Quadrophenia. The British economy began to boom in the late 1950s, and for the first time young people had money at their disposal to shape their own lifestyle. Everything that did not meet the fashionable standard was in demand. The eccentricity of the subculture is the starting point for the autumn / winter collection.
REBELS IN A SUIT
A new subculture always defines itself through music. In the 1950s, young British people discovered new music across the Atlantic. As a result, they increased their record collection mainly with new releases from the USA. Rock ‘n’ Roll hit like a bomb and was to become the predominant music genre of the youth and individualists for decades. But local bands like The Who were also passionately adored. The dance style to the new music was wild and exuberant. Pure rebellion!
The taste of the mods was exquisite and elitist. In the autumn-winter collection 2022, a coat (CG Milo BV), cut like a long jacket, picks up on the unconventional fashion style of mods. When it comes to knitting, the voluminous bouclé sweater (CG Bear) made from a fuzzy yarn looks downright avant-garde. Accessories such as scarves made of extra light, voluminous bouclé yarn blow in the wind on fast trips on the scooter.
ONLY THE BEST – SAVILE ROW AND NOTHING LESS
The sense of quality, which was particularly characteristic of them when it comes to clothing, is resonating again with today’s youth. Refined fabrics and accentuated cuts with an almost sartorial finish characterize the autumn-winter collection 2022 by Savile Row by CG – CLUB of GENTS. Accordingly, the collection is a mix of patterned fabrics, double-breasted jackets (CG Conrad) with wide lapels as well as bombers in classic fabrics and of course cropped trousers (CG Obey / CG Oscar / CG Olaf).
The mods got their suits from tailors from the famous Savile Row in London. They skilfully mixed British understatement with a youthful nonchalance that almost seemed outrageous. Even if the mods usually appeared in a suit, the rebellious attitude should not be neglected. No mod could do without a parka. In the spirit of sustainability, our model (CG Julian) is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. In the same material, a short trench (CG Joris) provides protection from wind and rain.
COLORS OF THE BRITISH COUNTRYSIDE
Special highlights of the collection are elegant round neck and turtleneck sweaters made of merino wool with geometric plait patterns and shirt prints that were created from wallpaper designs. The colors change from blue, black, nature to brown to British racing green and sunflower accents.
When it comes to accessories, the ties are getting a little wider again to match the masculine, wide jacket verses. Made of pure silk with a jacquard structure, they refine any outfit. The small flowered designs for the pocket squares come from the traditional London house Liberty and give the elegant look color accents.
