The head of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, have met to maintain a video call this Thursday, January 13, in order to analyze the French presidency of the European Union during the first half of 2022.

Sánchez already expressed his support for the priorities of France before that presidency in the meeting he held in Madrid on December 10 with his French counterpart, Jean Castex.

Some priorities among which are the economic recovery after the coronavirus pandemic, the need to progress in the negotiations of the new Migration and Asylum Pact of the EU, and the so-called Europe of Defense.

Sánchez and Macron will address details of these matters in the video call they have arranged for this Thursday.

To discuss the consolidation of a new growth model, Macron has summoned European leaders to an extraordinary summit in Paris next March.

Regarding energy, Sánchez and Macron clash over the definition of clean energy, since Paris intends to include nuclear energy among them and the Spanish Government has already expressed its total rejection of that possibility.

On the other hand, France also wants to launch in the coming months the discussion on the reform of the Stability Pact in the European Union.
