Safety region: ‘Flooding will end after Monday’ | 1Limburg

The nuisance of the high water in Valkenburg and Epen, among other places, will be over after Monday, says South Limburg Security Region. However, the situation is being closely monitored.

That is what Samantha Wisniewski of South Limburg Security Region says.

Meerssen
The flooding will be over after Monday. After the peak in Meerssen, around 13:00, the water flows into the Maas. The Limburg water board reports that a peak in the Roer is expected in the course of the afternoon, but that this will probably not cause any problems.

Wisniewski indicates that the high water peak in Meerssen is not expected to cause much damage. It concerns “some flooding in gardens and flood plains”, the spokeswoman shares. “But the fire brigade is there and helping.”

For the time being, no alarm code needs to be issued. The situation is being monitored, Wisniewski reports: “We are monitoring closely, with what happened in the summer in mind.” Dijkgraaf Patrick van der Broeck confirms that: “We have all bottlenecks in sight and take action where necessary.”

‘Fresh in memory’
The situation is not comparable to the floods that took place last summer, the security region indicates. According to Wisniewski, it is understandable that people are concerned about the high water. However, that is not necessary for the time being. “There are no worries as there were last summer. We all still have that very fresh in our minds.”

The spokeswoman indicates that the flooding was caused by days of rainfall, while that is not the case now.
