During the Russian-American talks in Geneva on security guarantees, Moscow officials focused on the issue of NATO non-enlargement. This was told by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Ryabkov, the correspondent of RBC reports.

“The issue of non-expansion of NATO and the formalization of this decision in a legally binding form is of paramount importance for us,” Ryabkov said.

According to the diplomat, Russia and the United States have a common understanding of strategic stability, and the dialogue will continue. But the parties have not yet reached a consensus on security guarantees, Ryabkov said.

Ryabkov with the phrase “there is always hope” assessed the prospects for negotiations with the United States

Russian-American talks on security treaties took place on January 9 and 10 in Geneva. Russia was represented by Sergei Ryabkov, and America was represented by US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman. The preliminary consultations lasted about two hours, and the main discussion lasted almost eight hours.
