Designed in Paris. Developed in Japan. Made in Europe: As the name suggests, Rue de Tokyo combines the aesthetics of two worlds in natural, elegant and timeless collections for women, men and children.
origins
Rue de Tokyo was founded by David Andersson Sahlin in 2017 out of his frustration with the fashion industry, where the most outlandish textiles often don’t make it to market due to profit margins.
Growing up in rural Sweden, David experienced a world of inspirational design from an early age – thanks to his mother’s art and his father’s collection of antique furniture. He studied international business, gained valuable experience with renowned brands and developed his passion for exceptional textiles, particularly during his time at luxury fashion house Damir Doma in Paris, where he managed all material development and sourcing for the men’s and women’s collections.
Through his numerous trips around the world, he got to know a variety of materials and techniques and became an expert in this field. He was particularly fascinated by the sophisticated aesthetics of Japanese design and the great attention to detail in the processing and finishing of fabrics. Inspired by his life in Paris, Florence and Copenhagen as well as his travels in Japan, David decided to start his own label Rue de Tokyo.
evolution
Since founding Rue de Tokyo, David has aimed to offer customers a level of sophistication with his label found nowhere else, for those who truly value unique things.
The label’s mission is characterized by uncompromising textiles for ultimate comfort and well-being. “I want you to feel comfortable in the clothes, whether you’re on vacation or at work,” says the designer. To create exceptional everyday products, Rue de Tokyo uses only natural, organic materials and some of the finest textiles in the world.
Current
Rue de Tokyo fits seamlessly into the modern life of global cities. The contemporary collections are available through various retailers as well as through the brand’s own online shop, which ships internationally.
