Rubiales Case | Iceta defends her actions in the Rubiales case against criticism from Yolanda Díaz

“I sincerely believe that we are going slow,” the acting Vice President of the Government and leader of Sumar, Yolanda Díaz, criticized on Monday about the Executive’s performance in the Rubiales case. “We have been very fast“, the Minister of Culture and Sports, Miquel Iceta, answered this Tuesday, after the Council of Ministers. And there, in the speed on the performance of the CSDa new source of conflict for the coalition government opens.

Iceta appeared this Tuesday, precisely, to defend the steps followed by his ministry in the last week, after the non-consensual kiss of the suspended president of the RFEFLuis Rubiales, soccer player Jennifer Hermoso. A sequence that was stopped, for the moment, by the Sports Administrative Court this Monday, after not resolving the CSD complaint and instead asking for more documentation.

The minister said in this regard that the information requested is the copies of the communiqués of the RFEF, Jennifer Hermoso and the Futpro union on the matter, in addition to a series of videos provided by the F League that it has not been able to reproduce. “Before eating we will respond to the request that they have made to us this morning,” explained Iceta.

“The Government has been faster than FIFA”

Iceta also claimed that The Government has been “faster” than FIFAunder the argument that the CSD sent its complaint to the TAD on Friday night and FIFA did not suspend Rubiales until Saturday. He omitted, however, that FIFA proceeded on Thursday to open the disciplinary file that led to the suspension two days later.

“I am very sorry that it was FIFA that has justly suspended Mr. Rubiales on a precautionary and precautionary basis and we have not done it in our country,” Yolanda Díaz said on Monday in an interview on RTVE, words that already had the reproach of the president of the Higher Sports Council, Víctor Francosand in which he has delved, without mentioning the second vice president, Iceta himself.

“We act as soon as the legal procedures have allowed us. We deeply respect the autonomy of the RFEF and for this reason we await its pronouncement in the assembly on Friday. Given the inaction of the RFEF, the CSD went to the TAD. The Government acted, following its procedures, before FIFA”, insisted the Catalan politician.

“Diligence, rigor and legal guarantees”

“The government advances with diligence and firm step, guaranteeing the rigor and legal guarantees“, has influenced Iceta, who celebrates the “deep restructuring” to which the RFEF has committed after his Commission of Autonomous Presidents on Monday and the withdrawal of Rubiales’ request to UEFA to take action for alleged government interference.

He has also asserted that no one from the Government has addressed the federation officials, since it respects their autonomy as a private entity, although they have done so with FIFA, as Francos already advanced, to work on the bid for the 2030 World Cup that Spain shares with Portugal and Morocco. A country, the latter, that Iceta has forgotten (or avoided) mentioning during his speech.

Francos, president of the CSD, also plans to meet “soon” with Pedro Rochainterim president of the RFEF while Rubiales is suspended, as confirmed by government sources.
