Roskomnadzor sent a letter to Meta (the owner of Facebook) in which it demanded to immediately unblock the page of the Russian delegation on the social network. The department said that they consider such actions a manifestation of an act of censorship.
Roskomnadzor demanded that Facebook remove the blocking of the page of the Russian delegation, banned after negotiations in Vienna. Access to it must be restored immediately, reported on the regulator’s website.
“On January 16, Roskomnadzor sent a letter to the American company Meta Platforms (which owns the Facebook social network) demanding that all restrictions be immediately removed from the official page of the delegation of the Russian Federation at the talks in Vienna on military security and arms control, and to explain the reasons for their introduction” , – reported the press service of Roskomnadzor.
The department also noted that Facebook’s actions “violate the key principles of the free flow of information, unhindered access to it.” According to representatives of Roskomnadzor, blocking the page can be considered a manifestation of an act of censorship.
The official page of the Russian delegation on Facebook was banned on Friday, January 14, when negotiations on military security and arms control were held in Vienna.
On Sunday, January 16, head of the Russian delegation Konstantin Gavrilov informed, that access to the page was restricted due to the publication of prohibited content, although no other records, except for official statements by the Russian leadership and the Russian Foreign Ministry, were posted there.
Later, the official Twitter account of the delegation clarifiedthat the Facebook page was banned after posts about security guarantees. “The Russian delegation has arrived in Vienna for a new negotiating round. Work begins with the restoration of our Facebook account, which was blocked by a wave of posts on security guarantees,” the entry says.
