The 54-year-old German has decided not to extend his expiring contract in Eindhoven. The PSV club management wanted to continue with Schmidt, who has been the head coach of the current number 2 in the Eredivisie since the summer of 2020.
“We have used the past few weeks to have good conversations,” said director of football affairs John de Jong. “It was our intention to continue with Roger. But Roger has decided to retire at the end of the season. We think that’s a shame, but it doesn’t change our goal to win as many prizes as possible this season.”
