Roger Schmidt is careful with Madueke and reacts to cup draw

PSV gave a show in the Gelredome on Saturday evening and won 5-0 against Vitesse. Roger Schmidt was pleased to speak to the press present afterwards. It was about the cup draw and in particular Noni Madueke. The attacker could count on compliments from his trainer.

Noni Madueke returned to the team last Tuesday and was immediately important with a goal and assist. The Englishman was also responsible for two Eindhoven goals on Saturday evening. “Noni has the potential to become exceptionally good. He is a great footballer,” said the coach afterwards.

But Madueke is the man of glass this season. The attacker has been injured several times this season. Something that the still young footballer should take into account according to the coach. “During his recovery, he was able to think about his body. His body is a gift, but you have to handle it with care. He can run at 36 kilometers per hour, which is unique but also his danger.”

Mauro Júnior also praised his teammate. “Noni is great. I am very happy to have him on my team. At training sessions I sometimes face him, it is very difficult to stop him.”

Schmidt could only be satisfied with the overall team performance. “We were sovereign today. With the returned players we get more options. You can also see that on the field. We used all the spaces today and decided the game early.”

Obviously, his team’s performance was not. “We are coming out of a difficult situation. Going to visit Vitesse after two home defeats is very difficult. We have shown that we are mentally strong. That is the next step in our development.”

Finally, Schmidt reacted to the cup draw that had taken place just before. PSV will meet Go Ahead Eagles in the semifinals. A favorable draw, but the trainer wanted nothing to do with it. “We are looking forward to that match. The cup is very important to us. It’s not easy to play in a full Eagle’s horst. That gives them an advantage. We should not underestimate them, I expect a difficult game.”
