A spokesperson for Mayor Halsema says that the municipality is also disappointed. The decision on the longer area ban will be taken during the municipal meeting of 17 and 18 September (a majority of the council is for), and then be introduced urgently. The spokesperson does not yet want to go into the idea for the security risk area, which will first be discussed immediately with the senders of the letter.
In 2021 and 2022, the municipality already held tests in various places in the city with preventive searches. A large part of the city council was against this. Zielinski acknowledges that the idea of searching the ramparts can cause resistance, but: “This is about clear facts. That many more people who cause nuisance in this neighborhood have weapons with them. That is unacceptable.”
