Three home defeats in a row

Hamburger SV has apparently decided to separate from long-time coach Tim Walter. The TV station “Sky” reported this on Monday morning. The information from the second division club has not yet been confirmed. The 48-year-old has been HSV coach since 2021; Frank Pagelsdorf last had a longer tenure at the club between 1997 and 2001.
After the 3:4 in the northern duel with Hannover 96, the third home defeat in a row, there was even more intense speculation than before about Walter being kicked out of HSV. Sports director Jonas Boldt avoided making a clear commitment to the coach shortly after the final whistle, saying: “We have to fundamentally question the way we work. Of course a coach plays a very, very important role.” Before the winter break, they said “that we want to improve things. We managed it away, but not here (in our own stadium; editor). We have to change that as quickly as possible.” He made it clear: “We can’t keep playing like this.”
Walter scored an average of 1.82 points per game in 103 games, which is the best value in Hamburg’s second division history. Nevertheless, the “Rothosen” missed promotion twice under him – each time in relegation. Steffen Baumgart has been considered a potential successor for weeks. The 52-year-old, who coached 1. FC Köln until the end of last year, is reportedly ready to work in Hamburg.
Flick, Magath & Co.: These German coaches are currently without a club
Before Christmas, Walter was already on the brink. Boldt and sports director Claus Costa once again gave him a clear mandate to stabilize his team. However, eight goals conceded in the first two home games of the new year against Karlsruher SC (3:4) and Hannover 96 (3:4) showed that the coach couldn’t manage it.
