Relay women 4×100 meters to World Cup final, men finished after wrong substitution

The Dutch relay women managed to qualify for the final 4×100 meters at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, although it did not go very well. The foursome, including Jamile Samuel and Tasa Jiya (Amsterdam), raced to fourth place in the heat with 42.53 seconds. The men’s team, in which Raphael Bouju (Amsterdam) participated, finished quickly after a wrong baton change.

The United States, Ivory Coast and Italy finished first three in the heats. As a result, they were sure of a place in the final. The two fastest other countries also qualified for that final and one of them was the Netherlands. The final battle is Saturday night.

The Dutch team recently won the 4×100 meter relay in the London Diamond League. That time, however, was fifteen hundredths better (42.38). “We are all fitter and better now than we were then. Now is the time to peak,” said Tasa Jiya.

It was a disconsolate evening for the men in the same part. Things went wrong at the first substitution, the young Nsikak Ekpo couldn’t pass the baton to Taymir Burnet. This resulted in disqualification. Incidentally, Germany also failed to finish in the same series.

The World Athletics Championships will last until Sunday.
