The reigning Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen has little hope before Bahrain’s Grand Prix. He sharply criticized his car.

Red Bull is faced with an unusual challenge at the Bahrain Grand Prix. In qualifying it was only enough for Max Verstappen to seven on Sunday (from 5 p.m. in the T-Online live ticker)-the world champion was clearly served afterwards.

When asked how he felt in the car, Verstappen answered: “I can’t say how I feel in the car on TV.” The Dutch said that the team had to struggle with the balance throughout the weekend. Various changes would not have brought the desired effect: “Actually nothing worked. That is a huge problem.” The brakes were also particularly problematic. Verstappen spoke of understeering, oversteering and missing grip-a set-up could hardly be built under these circumstances.

For the race, the Red Bull Pilot does not expect a quick turn. “If you have as many problems over a round as we do, it is not positive for the race on a route like here in Bahrain,” he said. He cannot estimate what will happen on Sunday: “I have no idea.”

Also Dr. Helmut Marko commented on his team’s disappointing performance. The red bull motor sports consultant initially spoke about the braking problems. “First of all, we have to find out what the cause is,” said Marko. If, for example, the brake pads are affected, you have to clarify with the FIA whether an exchange is allowed.

With a view to the race, Marko was realistic: “It will certainly be difficult.” He emphasized that this starting position was not expected – if only because drivers like Norris and Gasly are in front of Verstappen. The competition from Mercedes is “very, very quickly”. Marko therefore expects an “interesting race”.
