In recent weeks, the future of goalkeeper Noah Atubolu has been a big topic at SC Freiburg. The Europa League finalist from Breisgau was forced to reorient himself between the posts, but now jumped to his protégé’s side.
The reason: It was recently reported that Atubolu had behaved “not enough respectfully” towards his club and lacked a certain amount of gratitude.
The sports club has now vehemently rejected corresponding reports from “Sport Bild”: “Dear SC community, we would like to set things straight. Contrary to the current reporting, we emphasize that communication with Atu is characterized by mutual appreciation, respect and openness. That’s how it has been up to this day and that’s how we will keep it in the future,” said SC Freiburg via the club channel.
The fact is, however, that after the contract extension was not extended, the Breisgauers are clearly planning without Atubolu. He did not want to extend his working paper, which ran until 2027, probably in order to fulfill his dream of the English Premier League.
SC Freiburg has now reoriented itself and brought Mio Backhaus as number one from Bremen. Florian Müller will remain number two behind Backhaus.
Did Atubolu gamble away?
According to “Sport Bild”, those responsible have clearly communicated to Atobolu that they will start the new year with this constellation.
Even if SC Freiburg stands protectively behind its goalkeeper in its statement, the signing of Backhaus makes it clear that Freiburg is apparently planning without Atubolu.
The problem for the 24-year-old: There is currently no offer received. The transfer summer is still long, but due to last year’s success, the SCF is under no pressure to sell Atubolu below value if necessary.
