Putin told Johnson that NATO was not ready to adequately respond to Russian concerns

NATO has not shown an adequate response to Russia’s proposals for security guarantees, Vladimir Putin said. The president considered references to the alliance’s “open door” policy as a pretext.

President Vladimir Putin held telephone conversations with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson about the situation around Ukraine and the security guarantees offered by Russia, informs Kremlin press office.

“A fairly detailed exchange of views was held in the context of the intra-Ukrainian crisis and the situation to ensure long-term legally fixed guarantees of the security of the Russian Federation,” the message says.

In the conversation, as noted in the Kremlin, the Russian president drew Johnson’s attention to NATO’s “unwillingness to adequately respond to legitimate Russian concerns, while hiding behind references to the so-called open door policy of the alliance, which contradicts the fundamental principle of the indivisibility of security.” Vladimir Putin also spoke about the sabotage of the Minsk agreements by Ukraine.

On the eve of the meeting in Kiev, Boris Johnson and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. Following the meeting, the politicians issued a joint statement warning that a Russian attack would be a “major strategic mistake.” It also says that Kiev and London will work to strengthen Ukrainian security.
