It is too early to abandon hydrocarbons, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting of the Council for Science and Education. His the words cites the Kremlin website.

“It is still too early to give up hydrocarbons, 20-30, or maybe 50 years, all this will be actively used, especially our gas capabilities. But still, we must understand where all of humanity is heading and be ahead of the curve,” Putin said.

He noted that in 30 years the volume of net emissions of accumulated greenhouse gases in Russia should be less than in the European Union. Russia should achieve carbon neutrality no later than 2060, the president pointed out.

At the same time, the national economy requires accelerated development and therefore will have to adapt to climate challenges, Putin said.
