The telephone conversation between the Presidents of Russia and the United States Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden began at about 19:00 Moscow time. It is reported by NBC with reference to the White House.
The conversation between the presidents was announced the day before, the Kremlin noted that the United States was the initiator. A source Reuters pointed out that it was Moscow that asked for negotiations, suggesting Monday, but the White House spoke in favor of a conversation on Saturday, February 12, which suited the Russian side.
Earlier in the day, a telephone conversation took place between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. The Russian minister accused the United States and its allies of provocative actions that are pushing Kiev towards a “forceful solution” to the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine. He also noted that Washington ignored the key points of the proposed security guarantees. Blinken, in turn, threatened a “unified, transatlantic response” in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.
